another glitch whcih actually does get under my skin because of how random it is, sometimes when you change the default app for a certain file, it will change the OS default app setting for opening files to that same app also, which is really random and frustrating.
I like it, although it has a few glitches I haven't worked around, sometimes when you get prompted for an administrator password you can just start typing and then cancel and it'll log you in anyways which seems to be a massive security flaw but i dont really care about that on this laptop. It's worth mentioning there is a desktop app you can get with lets you retain that functionality but like I said it turned out to feel nice to experience tidiness.
I have looked at blog posts about various Linux distributions I could settle for and found out about Elementary OS which I fancied because of the minimalism approach and the opportunity for me to experience Mac OS snazziness without turning into a brand w****, so I got the disk image wacked it on rufus and went through the installation process which was lovely and simple.Ī few main points to state at this point, I love the look and feel of the interface, at first I was disappointed with the lack of desktop, however, because it is a place where I hoard a lot of files it turned out to be a blessing and I quickly developed a new work flow and forgot about it. anyways long story short, sharing didn't work out, too many clashes, I was glad to find out the family had an old laptop they were gonna chuck but I saved it (turned out it was just faulty RAM) it had windows 8.1 so I figured "Now is the time to make the jump, nothing will end up less functional than this OS on half the ram". Hi, I am a Linux novice and this is my experience of using Elementary OS as a beginner.ĭue to the current lockdown I ended up at my girlfriend's house for the time being, I am a PC enthusiast so it would come to no surprise that I built my own desktop, however, it was impossible to take it with me and resorted to sharing a laptop between us to finish the uni year.
